The 'Frank Lowy' leaves after 18 years service at North Shore

The time comes when a boat has to be sold to make way for new boats.  That day came this weekend when the Frank Lowy was loaded onto a TAS van by its new owners and taken to its new home in Armidale.

The Frank Lowy has given us 18 years good service at North Shore.  It was bought in 1994 with the help of Frank Lowy himself (still a member of the club) and a donation from Westfield.  The Lowy's new home is at The Armidale School.  TAS is a GPS school however did not have a rowing program until the 1990's when John Sipkens', a keen rower himself, sons were at the school.  The Sipkens boys did well in rowing but the rowing program fell by the wayside after they left school.

John Childs, an old boy of the school, bought the Lowy from the club and donated it to the school for their recently revived rowing program.   The Frank Lowy is the first boat the school will own and they are delighted with their new boat.   Some of the students recently borrowed a four from Macquarie Uni to race in this year's GPS Regatta and came a creditable third in the 3rd fours.

The photos show some of the students loading the two sections onto the TAS van to be transported to its new home in Armidale.
